5 quick and easy way to save money

Let’s talk about money. I don’t know about you but every year I set financial goals for myself. Whether it’s paying off more of my student loans, or contributing to my 401K or saving for a vacation, I’m always thinking about how I can be smart with my money.  Today, I thought I’d share 3 easy strategies I employ to save more money.

  1. Take a break from shopping! Every year, I start the new year with a no shopping ban. This year, I shared my challenge on instagram stories and a few ladies expressed interest in doing the no shopping cleanse with me. I started a private group on instagram where we shared hacks and tips to saving money during the no shopping cleanse.

Honestly, when you take a break from shopping even if for two months, it forces you to shop your closet and work with what you have. I mean, neccessities are important; so if you need deodorant or body lotion by all means. Of if your moisturizer runs out, please re-up, don’t walk around looking ashy. But if you can hold out on those boots you don’t need or sweater you don’t need. Taking a break from shopping can help you spend less, ultimately saving you money.  The great thing about this is that you can do it at anytime during the year.

2) Another great way to save money is with the digit app. I LOVE digit. Need a travel fund, Emergency Savings, Home Renovations, you can set individual goals with digit. I used to use it 3 years ago and started using it again two months ago and I’ve already saved 500.00.  There’s a whole highlight on it on my instagram stories.   So you basically connect digit to your checking account and it analyzes your spending habits and pulls out money from your account which you can withdraw at any moment. So they’ll take 2 dollars here, 4 dollars here. You can also instruct digit to take out a specific amount and you can save for mutilple goals.  Another great perk about digit? You can pause savings when you are getting low on your balance. It’s seriously an easy way to save money without thinking about it. This isn’t even sponsored. Download digit and you can get 5 dollars for downloading.

3) Sell things you don’t use. I like to consider myself a minimalist. Having too many things overwhelm me. How many black pumps can you have? Some people may say not enough, but let’s be honest. Why do I need 7 black pumps when I won’t even wear all of them within the year?

I typically give away my clothing and shoes to my younger cousins or donate them, but you can use apps like Poshmark or even create a page on instagram to sell your stuff. Consignment shops are a great place to take your clothing and gently worn shoes and bags. They do the work for you and take a small percentage of earnings.

4) Bank with a Credit Union! Or a bank that has no fees with great perks!  I’ve been banking with mine since undergrad. They took over my car loan from Nissan, and gave me a lower rate. I’ve been able to pay off my car and overall just build a really great relationship with them. They also have better rates, and the part I absolutely love? I earn points for using my check card. I recently redeemed my points for a 50 dollar Target visa gift card and a 25 dollar Sephora gift card. Definitely can not beat that.

BONUS- Shop pre owned or thrift. I will admit that I don’t thrift hardly ever; but in the past when I have, I have found some amazing pieces for such a LOW price. My favorite blue vintage belt is from a thrift store. I’ve had it for years and it cost me less than 5 dollars.
