Cuba Travel Diary: Varadero

One of the cab drivers offered to take us to Varadero which was about 2 hours away for 100.00 which is not  a bad price. We ended up taking the Viazul bus for 10 dollars per person. The bus made about 2-3 stops so it took a little over 2 hours but considering it was 10 dollars, you cant beat that. The bus was clean and comfortable. I’d take it again and I would highly recommend it.

We had another amazing meal in Varadero and only cost 7.50. Like what? Next time, I go to Cuba, I definitely will plan to spend the night and stay longer than a day.  Although, when we arrived in Varadero the bus was full for a return trip at 6pm. That was an adventure that followed.

The beach in Varadero was GORGEOUS! Not as gorgeous as Phi Phi Islands, nothing beats that but Varadero beach is pretty! There was no entrance fee, but two lounge chairs and an umbrella goes for about 7 dollars. Pretty inexpensive if you ask me. Just like the beach in Havana, I ended up taking a really good nap on the beach. Actually, it was more like sleep. I slept for about an hour and the sun on my skin felt so good.

We took the bus in Havana at 8am and arrived in Varadero at about 11 I believe, with bathroom stop and other pit stops. After lunch and the beach we headed back to the bus station at around 5pm and there were still no spots on the bus.

The Cab driver tried to charge my friend and I 20 each for a ride back. Fortunately, we ran into two guys who were on the bus with us to Varadero. They spoke Spanish and this taxi driver was charging 80 for 4 people. I’m not a great haggler and i was ready to throw 20 bucks his way; I just wanted to make sure I got back to Havana. We manage to find another cab after much haggling for 65 for 4 people.

The ride was fast!  The taxi odometer didn’t work and our driver was a bit reckless for my liking. BUT, we made it and the music was pretty amazing. We later found out that our cab mates were from Venice, Italy and they were cute! They kissed us on both cheeks as we parted ways. Having been to Italy before, I can first hand tell you Italian men are FINE!

I filmed some video content and plan on doing a vlog so stay tuned for that.

I’m also going to do a detailed post on how much I spent on this trip
