I have to say that I had high hopes for the food in Cuba but it wasn’t as amazing as I’d hoped. It’s not the worst, by any means though.  cuba-travel-diary- havana-cuba

It’s been a little over two weeks since I’ve returned from Cuba and I’m going to be spilling ALLL the tea from my time in Cuba. I can tell you right now that I plan to visit again.

We arrived the wednesday night before Thanksgiving, and all we had time for was dinner. Our airbnb host arranged a cab ride from the airport which was so helpful. When we arrived, he recommended a local restaurant within walking distance, so we grabbed dinner and got some sleep for our first full day in Havana.

We had planned on going to Varadero on Thursday, but ended up at Tarara Beach instead. It’s about 1.5 hour less of a drive than Varadero so we decided to visit. The beach was beautiful, clean and quiet, everything I prefer in a beach.  There was a restaurant on the beach that delivered our meals to our lounge chairs so that was pretty awesome to eat lunch on the beach.  I took a nap even. This was a different type of Thanksgiving but it sure was nice. Work had been so stressful, so this break was exactly what I needed.

While we were at the beach, I’d chatted some with the lifeguard to pay for lounge chairs and secure some coconut water. He didn’t speak english and well, I don’t speak spanish so it was an interesting and fun interaction.

He asked us if we had planned on going salsa dancing, which we were; so he agreed to drive to Habana and take us dancing. We met up with him at the restaurant we had had dinner at the night before, because well you don’t let a stranger know where you are staying even if it is gated.

He arrived with his cousin, and we took a cab to a club/lounge called La Gruta, and it was FUN!! I highly recommend; this club was LIT! I don’t even remember the last time I went to  club or lounge.  So we had to check our bags, kinda like a coat check at this club and that really didn’t sit well with me.  He suggested that we go back and grab our money and ID’s just in case, which was pretty smart because I certainly did not trust the coat check lady not to go through our bags. When you are a tourist, people just know.  Dancing was so much fun, but after 1am I started to get tired, cuz I’m old, and they helped us get a cab back to our air bnb. I wouldn’t have agreed to go dancing with a guy I’d just met in a country where I don’t speak the language.  I don’t know if I’d do it again, but it made for a really fun night!

Also, braiding my hair was the best decision I made re: this trip. Made getting ready a heck of a lot easier.

Leave me a comment if you have any specific questions, but I will be ending the series on how much I spent in totality on this trip and some tips on traveling to Cuba.

ps. I would love it if you could pin pics from my cuba trip to your pinterest travel board if you have any! xoxoxo
