Three ways to invest in yourself

Growth; sweet growth. Growing pains are real, but they’re so necessary to reach our highest potential. I don’t know about you guys but investing in myself is always a priority. I think a lot of us are already doing things to invest in our inner woman, but sometimes we don’t realize were doing that perhaps because sometimes consistency can be difficult.

1) This year, I decided to make therapy a priority. When I say priority, I mean consistent.  Therapy is more effective when consistent.  You see, I moved at the end of last year, and my old therapist whom I really connected with became out of network. While I really wanted to continue see her, paying out of pocket, and driving two hours weekly was not feasible for me. After meeting with a therapist that I didn’t really gel with, I finally found one that I connect with and is well versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It just fits.

Why is therapy an investment? A great therapist can help you cope with life’s changes and provide you with tools to better equip yourself with life challenges.

2) I haven’t attended a conference since Lucky Fabb. It’s really important to me to invest into myself and my brand. When I found out that Create and Cultivate was headed to Chicago, I decided to grab a ticket. Create and Cultivate is affordable if you live in Chicago. If you factor in flight and hotel accommodations and conference tickets, it can add up real quick. But let’s put things into perspective, a pair of designer shoes that pretty much won’t give me a return on investment is sitting in my closet. So I can invest in myself and my brand.

3) Investing in my circle. Even though I know quite a few people, I wouldn’t say I have a lot of friends; which is good. I’m working on being a better friend to those who I choose to surround myself with. When you invest into your friends, you’re ultimately investing back into yourself. Sometimes investing in your relationships require more than being present but rather being open, vulnerable, and receptive to feedback and sometimes those aren’t always easy to do but in my opinion beyond worth it.

This Spring, I purged my closet and got rid of about 60 percent of what I owned. I’m not a big fan of excess and keeping my closet minimal is goals right now. I’m buying intentional pieces such as this beautiful linen dress I picked up from Zara. Its very easy to wear; add some fun accessories and you’re ready to go. I’m not a huge Zara girl, but this dress if you ask me is a hit.
